The more we worked with clients, the more we felt something was missing from conventional brand strategy. We wanted an approach that left room for intuition alongside strategy, and curiosity alongside structure. The Brand Archetype Oracle grew out of that shared search and has since become an essential part of how we work with brands.
We’re both brand and type designers who have been running our own independent studios for years: Local Desk and Mindt® Studio. Asking questions that don’t have obvious answers is kind of our specialty. Beyond strategy and design, we’ve spent years exploring psychology, symbolism, personal growth, and the deeper patterns that shape people and brands alike.
FAQ
Brand archetypes are a widely used framework in brand strategy, design, and communication. They are rooted in the work of Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, who explored universal patterns of human behavior, motivation, and symbolism through the concept of archetypes.
Over time, these ideas have been adapted into branding to help define a brand’s personality, values, voice, and emotional connection with its audience.
Many existing brand archetype frameworks are based on Jung’s 12 archetypes. We felt that the world of brands, creativity, and culture has evolved—and that a broader, more nuanced system was needed. Which is why The Brand Archetype Oracle (BAO) expands this into 55 distinct archetypal identities, energies, and expressions.
A single archetype can offer a powerful perspective—but a brand is never defined by only one dimension.
The BAO uses a three-card spread inspired by traditional tarot structures. Each card position carries a specific meaning, allowing the archetypes to interact and create a layered reading.
Similar to classic spreads such as Past–Present–Future, the three cards uncover different perspectives and present connections as well as opportunities for your brand’s identity, direction, or current challenges.
No. The BAO is designed for both brand professionals and creative explorers. No previous branding or tarot experience is required.
While inspired by the structure of tarot, The Oracle is not about prediction. It uses archetypes as a reflective framework to spark ideas, reveal so far hidden aspects, and support creative and strategic thinking.
The BAO can support brand exploration, positioning, creative direction, visual thinking, storytelling, workshops, and strategic conversations.
It helps unlock new angles, language, and possibilities for your brand.
Yes. All our licenses are designed for client work, workshops, facilitation, and consulting.
There are no limits. You can return to The Oracle and create as many readings as you like.
Each reading offers a new insight depending on your question, intention, and stage of your brand journey.
